The Spaces Inbetween

Right, so think of a piece of music, is it the notes that make the piece? Or the breaths and rests between the notes that add impact and energy?

Think of a street, is it the space itself that makes you feel like you have to walk further or the space between the buildings themselves that guide you to how far you have to walk to your destination?

Think of a bee, is the bee attached to the flower, or does the space between the bee and the flower create the harmony and synergy needed to create the honey?

Sometimes we are so focused on our goals, that we forget about the spaces between. Even if you look at any fitness or diet plans that are out there, they encourage periods of rest and recuperation and a day off now and again. It’s within the pause that you reconfigure and get some perspective.

Think of someone toxic that just won't give you space. Why won’t they give you space? Because they know that within that space you are going to really start figuring things out and it will be shown to you just how suffocating and controlling they really are.

When you think of an employer and believe me I’ve seen plenty of this type. The ones who won’t give their workers breaks or expect them to work hard and play hard, have high staff turnovers and high levels of burnout. Work gets sloppy and bad decisions are made, because the space has not been created to reflect and reconfigure.

When you look at your manifestations, I am sure you can take a good look around and realise that you now have things that you once dreamed of owning, so actually when you do reflect and keep an eye on that tick list you have of what you need to achieve, you’ll realise that from your absolute starting point to where you want to go, is much shorter in distance that you thought it was.

It really is the space that creates, a silent breath and a silent whisper of knowledge. Think of music for example, from when you go raving and you wait for that ‘Beat drop’ to when you’re enjoying a piece of music, the anticipation and the creation of something epic happens in the gaps between. We truly only find happiness and we can really only build momentum when we do nothing.

If you can get really comfortable with doing nothing and enjoying the space then you can really focus on where your energy is now. You really want to use that time to relax and get comfortable and harbour the energies of success so that your next move can be highlighted for you. That’s why the saying, ‘Only fools rush in’, has standed the test of time. People believe that taking your time, wastes time and that time can be used to just keep achieving, and yes, I’ve seen people nail their goals in a much shorter period, but they soon burn out or crash out because they didn’t get time to think, or feel things out. They reacted!

If you look around at the people you know, most people are just living in a state of reacting all the time. Tomorrow is dictated by what happens today instead of creating tomorrow regardless of today.

I had a client recently who was living that exact life. He would receive an unexpected bill, freak out, cancel his gym, stop eating healthy and turn to wine for comfort, pass out on the sofa, then wake up all stiff and then try and get himself together. It was a constant state of reaction. He wondered when ‘his time was coming’, the time when he didn’t need to worry about anything and he could be happy and relaxed and find the woman of his dreams’. I worked with him and made him realise that regardless of what happens he acts as if he is expecting what he wants to come through. So yes, the bills would come in and he’d either leave it a few days and pay them later than he normally would, or he’d just pay them and not think about it again. He’d get an early night, he’d work out and whatever negative thing came along, he would act as if he was planning for more positivity. To say his life changed and he felt more in control was an understatement. So instead of reacting to the space between, he relaxed and owned the space.

Many people are using social media to scroll to fill silences and as an aid to go to sleep, instead of enjoying the space to imagine better things.

Use your spaces correctly, as they are a great opportunity to get realigned and to start imagining better things.
